Women in Reinsurance (WiRe) Bermuda Announces Woman of the Year 2026 – Sophia Greaves

Women in Reinsurance (WiRe), the professional organization for women working in Bermuda’s reinsurance sector, hosted its fourth annual International Women’s Day Gala on Friday, March 6, 2026, bringing together industry leaders to celebrate the achievements and advancement of women across Bermuda’s world-class reinsurance market.
The Gala was a sold-out event, with representation from a broad cross-section of reinsurance companies and professional service providers. Attendees ranged from senior executives and long-standing industry leaders to early-career professionals, reflecting WiRe’s commitment to fostering connection, mentorship, and growth at every stage of the career journey.
The keynote address was delivered by Fiona Luck, an experienced senior leader with over 40 years of industry experience across global financial services, insurance and reinsurance. Ms. Luck was appointed Senior Independent Director and Deputy Chair of Lloyd’s Council in 2026, having joined the Board in 2018. She previously Chaired the Cultural Advisory Group established in 2019 to address matters including increasing the representation of women on Lloyd’s entity Boards and promoting inclusivity at every level throughout the market. She also holds non-executive directorships with Convex Group Ltd, HSBC Bank Bermuda Limited and Phoenix Reinsurance Bermuda Ltd, and was previously Chair of the Phoenix Reinsurance group of companies in Bermuda.
“Women have been instrumental in shaping the Bermuda insurance and reinsurance sector over the past 40 years. Their achievements deserve far greater recognition, and thanks to the efforts of the WiRe Board and leadership, this remarkable story and its impact will be celebrated. The next generation of talented women is poised to continue this legacy, making exciting and meaningful contributions to the industry,” said Fiona Luck.
The International Women’s Day Gala was established to recognize the significant contributions of women shaping Bermuda’s reinsurance industry. At this year’s event, Sophia Greaves was presented with the WiRe Woman of the Year Award, honoring her leadership, professional excellence, and dedication to advancing both the industry and the broader community.
“At WiRe, we are committed to supporting the advancement of women across every stage of their careers,” said Peta White, Chairwoman of WiRe and President of Vantage Risk. “Sophia’s leadership and example demonstrate the importance of mentorship and sponsorship in building the next generation of industry leaders.”
Ms. Greaves is a Director and Head of the Insurance & Reinsurance practice at Conyers Dill & Pearman, where she leads Bermuda’s largest dedicated team in this field. With close to 20 years of experience, she is widely regarded for her regulatory and transactional expertise regarding complex risk solutions. Sophia advises clients on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, market entry requirements as well as governance and compliance under Bermuda’s Solvency II equivalent regime. She works with reinsurers across their full lifecycle, from formation and licensing through to solvent exits, and is a regular contributor to industry publications and conferences on regulatory reform and market trends. Appointed Director in 2016 and Head of Insurance and Reinsurance practice in 2024, she was the first Black woman to hold each of these roles at the firm. Beyond her practice, she is committed to broadening representation in the legal and financial services industries, chairing the firm’s Scholarship Committee, supporting recruitment and mentorship initiatives, serving on several Bermuda company boards, and encouraging Bermudians to pursue careers in law, finance and international business. Sophia is also a 2026 honoree of the Hamilton Princess Black History Month Award.
