WiRe Silent Auction Raises $12,000 for PALS

WiRe (Women in Reinsurance) announced today a donation of $12,000 to support PALS. The funds were raised through a silent auction during WiRe’s annual holiday social.

“WiRe provides educational, mentoring and networking opportunities for our members but we also strive to support the community through charitable efforts,” said Julia Mather, WiRe board member and head of the event committee. “This fundraiser is yet another example of how women in our industry can come together and make a huge difference in the community within just a few short hours.”

More than three dozen businesses around the island donated prizes to support the auction. PALS representatives were also on hand and sold more raffle tickets in a few short hours than they would normally sell during a full day in town.

Zoe Kempe, a member of WiRe’s events committee and organizer of the auction, said, “We are extremely grateful to the many businesses in Bermuda who so generously donated items to the silent auction. It is a pleasure to see so many members of the community come together at this time of year to support a wonderful charity that plays such an important role in Bermuda.”

About WiRe WiRe was formed in 2008 by professional women working in the reinsurance market in Bermuda and currently has 160 members. Its mission is to provide a platform for the professional development of women in the field of reinsurance through networking, education and informal mentoring. Membership is free and open to all women working with the reinsurance sector in Bermuda.

About PALS P.A.L.S . (formerly Patients Assistance League and Service) was founded in 1980 to provide service to allow cancer patients to remain in their homes rather than being hospitalised. P.A.L.S . is not part of the Hospital, Hospice, Government or any other organization, but cooperates and works with them all to enhance the care of our patients.
