Women in Reinsurance Expands Board

Women in Reinsurance (“WiRe”), the organization for professional women working in the Bermuda reinsurance sector, today announced the following three appointments to its board:

Tracey Gibbons, Senior Vice President Specialty Reinsurance, Allied World

Peta White, Co-Head of Global Reinsurance Operations, and Senior Managing Director, Head of North America Property Reinsurance, Markel Global Reinsurance.

Stephen Young, Chief Executive Officer, Global Reinsurance, Sompo International

“It speaks volumes to the impact that WiRe has made on the Bermuda marketplace to date that Tracey, Peta and Stephen have so enthusiastically agreed to join our board. Kathleen was one of the original supporters of WiRe and a board member since 2011. She has been a steadfast advocate for women’s advancement in the workplace.”

ABOUT WiRe

WiRe was formed in 2008 by a group of senior professional women in the reinsurance industry to encourage the development and promotion of women within the marketplace. Our membership includes women from almost every reinsurance and brokerage firm in Bermuda as well as from local regulatory bodies, associations and service providers.

ABOUT OUR NEW BOARD MEMBERS

Tracey Gibbons is Senior Vice President Specialty Reinsurance at Allied World. Tracey has more than 30 years of experience in various fields of underwriting and management in direct insurance, captive management and reinsurance.

She has extensive experience in all lines of business with a particular focus on casualty and specialty lines, and is an acknowledged leader and innovator working on new business and marketing initiatives, leading research and working closely with other members of the company executive team.

As well as a joint honors degree in Economics and Economic and Social History from the University of Hull, Tracey is also a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, an Associate in Risk Management, a member of the Institute of Directors and a Certified Company Director.

Peta White is Co-Head of Global Reinsurance Operations, and Senior Managing Director, Head of North America Property Reinsurance at Markel Global Reinsurance. Prior to 2013, she was Managing Director Head of International Property. Peta joined the Company (formerly Max Re/Alterra) in 2006, as Senior Vice President, International Property Cat. She started her career in 1994 as a Cat Modeler at CAT Limited which was later acquired by ACE Tempest Re, where her role upon leaving in 2006 was Vice President, International Underwriter.

Peta graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1993. A Bermudian, she is a keen and successful sailor and represented the island in the Olympics in 2004. She currently serves on the Board of Education for the Bermuda Insurance Institute.

Stephen Young is Chief Executive Officer, Global Reinsurance of Sompo International, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sompo Holdings, Inc. Prior to this role which he has held since January 2016, he served as Executive Vice President, Chief Underwriting Officer, Head of Global Catastrophe Reinsurance, responsible for the company’s global property, workers compensation, personal accident and terrorism catastrophe reinsurance portfolios, with a focus on high severity, low frequency risk. He joined Endurance's Bermuda-based reinsurance team in 2002 as an underwriter and assumed responsibility for Endurance's U.S. catastrophe reinsurance business in 2005. Prior to his tenure at Endurance, Mr. Young held various underwriting positions in the industry.

A native of Bermuda, he graduated from Babson College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance.
